HKG has resting areas and showers inside the airport, but its FAQ says there is no transit hotel in the restricted area. Regal Airport Hotel connects to T1 on the public side; check entry eligibility before reserving a room.
A more comfortable place to pause
Location and access come first. These are researched options, not an exhaustive directory. Use the linked operator for current availability and prices.
| Place & location | Access | Before you book |
|---|---|---|
| Regal Airport Hotel Connected to Terminal 1 | Landside | Access is through the public terminal route. Compare day-use hours with your actual arrival and next check-in. |
| Complimentary shower facilities Arrivals Level 5 · near Gates 12 and 43 | Airside arrivals area | Shampoo and bath gel are supplied; towels and other consumables are available from vending machines. |
Free rest, a shower, or a paid break
For an overnight connection, distinguish public resting areas from products that actually include a bed. The airport FAQ explicitly rules out a restricted-area transit hotel.
Resting lounge
Choose a mapped rest location on the way to the next flight. Seating is shared space, not a reserved room: keep valuables secured and leave enough time to check the gate again.
Shower without a full lounge visit
The complimentary facilities list 24-hour access. Bath gel, shampoo and a hair dryer are provided; factor in buying or bringing a towel rather than expecting every item to be free.
A paid rest product
Refreshhh by Aerotel is listed as a shower and resting-area service, not a guaranteed hotel bed. Ask exactly what your reservation includes, especially if uninterrupted sleep is the main purpose.
Plan a wake-up and return-to-gate deadline even when remaining airside. Paid access does not stop the boarding clock.
Terminals & airport transfers
Choose the route for your itinerary. Public road directions do not describe restricted airport corridors.
Transfer desk → security → departure gate
Signed airport transfer routeTransfer details
Use the boarding-pass branch in the official transfer guide. The airport map is the right reference for concourse and level changes; a city road map cannot show the restricted passenger path. Allow for screening and walking before starting the break.
Know before you settle in
Storage is on the public side
The airport FAQ places baggage storage in the non-restricted area on Terminal 1 Level 5. A transit passenger must be able to enter Hong Kong to reach it. Check collection hours and the onward bag-drop deadline before committing to a city visit.

Personal checklist & offline guide
Your personal checklist
Choose what applies to your trip. Progress stays on this device for HKG. Checking an item is your own reminder, not an access approval.

Where to sleep at HKG
Use the official resting-lounge map to choose a location near the departure route. For a shower, compare the complimentary arrivals-level facilities with paid lounge services. For a private room, evaluate landside entry and Regal’s booked stay window.
A seat, a lounge or a room?
A lounge buys facilities and a quieter place to sit; it does not automatically include a bed. A room is the more predictable option for privacy. For terminal seating, ask staff which areas you may use overnight rather than assuming the entire airport stays accessible.
- Use the table above to match your departure area to a real facility.
- Confirm your booking covers your actual arrival time, not just the calendar date.
- Keep medication, charging cables and a light layer in cabin baggage.
The access detail that matters
A booking labelled “Aerotel” or “airport hotel” is not proof of a private airside bedroom. The airport currently describes Refreshhh by Aerotel as showers, hair blow-dry rooms and a resting area. Confirm the actual product before paying.
Plan the wake-up, not just the bedtime
Work backwards from the airline’s gate deadline. Include the walk, any transfer and checks after leaving the room. Set two alarms, secure your documents and check the flight screens again when you wake.
A few useful answers
What is the most common booking mistake at HKG?
A booking labelled “Aerotel” or “airport hotel” is not proof of a private airside bedroom. The airport currently describes Refreshhh by Aerotel as showers, hair blow-dry rooms and a resting area. Confirm the actual product before paying.
Can I use facilities in another terminal?
With an onward boarding pass, follow transfer signs towards departures and pass transfer security. Without one, find the airline’s designated transfer desk first. Resolve the boarding pass before walking to a lounge on the other side of the airport.
Are opening hours and prices guaranteed?
No. Use the airport or operator’s current information for your travel date. Prices, availability and access rules may change.
Can I leave the airport during my connection?
A visit to Hong Kong requires entry clearance and a separate outward and return allowance. Keep baggage collection and the next security process in the plan. Do not use a train’s advertised ride time as the entire airport-to-city round trip.
