An overnight international connection at NRT cannot be planned as an all-night airside stay. The airport requires overnight transfer passengers to complete arrival immigration and customs. Check entry eligibility before booking; daytime nap rooms are a different product.
A more comfortable place to pause
Location and access come first. These are researched options, not an exhaustive directory. Use the linked operator for current availability and prices.
| Place & location | Access | Before you book |
|---|---|---|
| Nine Hours Narita Airport T2 Car Park Building · B1F | Landside | Capsule accommodation, daytime rest and shower-only access. Confirm family suitability before booking. |
| T1 Refresh Room T1 Central Building · 3F · international departures | Airside | Single and twin nap rooms with showers; daytime hours apply. |
| T2 Refresh Room T2 Satellite · 3F · international departures | Airside | Dayroom/nap room; not an overnight transit hotel. |
| T1 public shower rooms T1 Central Building · 2F | Landside | Shower-only rooms; the airport does not accept shower reservations. |
| Hotel Nikko Narita Off-airport · hotel shuttle from T1 / T2 | Landside | No direct airport-to-hotel shuttle from T3 in the operator’s published directions. Add the T2 transfer. |
An airside dayroom does not solve the whole night
The international transfer guide states that passengers cannot remain airside outside Narita’s 06:00–00:00 operating window. Overnight passengers must complete arrival immigration and customs.
Deal with entry before departure
If your connection is overnight, ask the airline or Japan’s immigration authority about your exact itinerary in advance. A confirmed onward flight does not by itself settle whether you may enter.
Use nap rooms for the daytime case
T1 and T2 refresh rooms operate during published daytime/evening hours. Compare the last acceptance time with the planned arrival at the room, not just its advertised closing time.
Choose a reachable public-side fallback
Nine Hours and off-airport hotels require a public-area route. Book only after resolving entry, then set the morning departure sequence with check-in, security and any terminal change.
If entry cannot be resolved, speak to the airline about the itinerary itself rather than relying on sleeping near the gate overnight.
Terminals & airport transfers
Choose the route for your itinerary. Public road directions do not describe restricted airport corridors.
T1 ↔ T2 ↔ T3 on the public side
Free terminal shuttle / T2–T3 walking corridorTransfer details
The airport operates free public-side terminal shuttles and a T2–T3 walking corridor. Stops and circular routes differ, so check the destination before boarding. Use this page for a hotel or new check-in, and the separate transit bus instructions for an airside connection.
International transfer between terminals
Designated transit passenger busesTransfer details
Use the official international connection guide to find the appropriate bus gate. It notes limited service times for T3 routes and airline-dependent cases requiring arrival procedures. Confirm the carrier’s handling before assuming a public shuttle can be used instead.
Know before you settle in
A room and a shower have different last acceptance times
T1 refresh rooms list last admission at 20:00 for a nap room and 20:30 for showers; T2 lists 20:30 and 21:00 respectively. Check the current schedule when travelling late. Do not assume the public shower room, airside dayroom and capsule follow the same clock.
Official information ↗Checked 2026-10-22Nine Hours is a public-side service
The operator offers overnight accommodation, short-term rest and shower-only use at T2. Capsule and locker entrances are separated for men and women, so ask about your family’s arrangements rather than expecting a shared hotel room.

Personal checklist & offline guide
Your personal checklist
Choose what applies to your trip. Progress stays on this device for NRT. Checking an item is your own reminder, not an access approval.
A standalone HTML file with your checklist, transfer instructions, facility locations and source notes. It needs no app or login to read offline. Save it before travelling. It contains a snapshot of your ticks; download again after updates.
Where to sleep at NRT
For a daytime break, check the T1 Central Building or T2 Satellite nap rooms. For an overnight capsule, Nine Hours is in the T2 car-park building basement on the public side. Compare the access route and actual booked hours, not just the word “airport”.
A seat, a lounge or a room?
A lounge buys facilities and a quieter place to sit; it does not automatically include a bed. A room is the more predictable option for privacy. For terminal seating, ask staff which areas you may use overnight rather than assuming the entire airport stays accessible.
- Use the table above to match your departure area to a real facility.
- Confirm your booking covers your actual arrival time, not just the calendar date.
- Keep medication, charging cables and a light layer in cabin baggage.
The access detail that matters
Nine Hours is before security at T2, while the T1 and T2 nap rooms are after international security. Neither a capsule booking nor a dayroom listing removes the airport’s overnight entry requirement.
Plan the wake-up, not just the bedtime
Work backwards from the airline’s gate deadline. Include the walk, any transfer and checks after leaving the room. Set two alarms, secure your documents and check the flight screens again when you wake.
A few useful answers
What is the most common booking mistake at NRT?
Nine Hours is before security at T2, while the T1 and T2 nap rooms are after international security. Neither a capsule booking nor a dayroom listing removes the airport’s overnight entry requirement.
Can I use facilities in another terminal?
Narita distinguishes transit passenger shuttle buses after security from public-side terminal shuttles. Confirm both terminals and use the matching route. Some airlines require arrival procedures even for a terminal change; ask your carrier rather than assuming every connection stays airside.
Are opening hours and prices guaranteed?
No. Use the airport or operator’s current information for your travel date. Prices, availability and access rules may change.
Can I leave the airport during my connection?
A visit to Narita or Tokyo involves entry to Japan and a return departure process. Narita and Haneda are different airports: a change between NRT and HND is a landside journey with baggage, transport and a new check-in allowance, not a terminal shuttle.
