Zayed International Airport (AUH) guide

Plan around the main terminal’s piers, your onward boarding pass and any US pre-clearance instructions. Compare an airside room with lounge rest before choosing how to spend the connection.

BEFORE YOU SETTLE IN

AUHotel is in AUH’s restricted transit area and requires an onward boarding pass. Pearl and Etihad lounges are different products with different admission conditions. A booking near Pier D does not remove the need to check your actual onward gate.

THE AUH DETAILS

Think in piers and procedures, not an old terminal number

AUH’s current transfer guide describes the main terminal as the shared flight base. Check your pier, gate and required procedures before choosing a room or lounge.

Complete the onward route

Use the purple Transfer signs after disembarking. The airport distinguishes this route from Arrivals and baggage reclaim. If the onward boarding pass is missing, the published transfer-desk location is after screening; ask staff if your booking needs a different process.

Keep the exact airport code

An Abu Dhabi connection is AUH, not a terminal at Dubai. A cheap hotel or flight shown in a Dubai search can create an entirely separate road journey. Keep both airport codes visible when evaluating separate-ticket itineraries.

Use free family facilities where helpful

The airport lists complimentary strollers and changing/nursing rooms. These can solve practical needs without a lounge purchase. Ask staff for the nearest suitable location on your actual route instead of crossing to another pier only because a map pin looks nearby.

First establish the correct gate and access zone; only then compare optional services and their prices.

Terminals & airport transfers

Choose the route for your itinerary. Public road directions do not describe restricted airport corridors.

Arrival gate ↔ onward pier

Signed walking routes and travelators

Follow purple Transfer signs, complete the published screening route and confirm the gate on the flight screens. The airport describes flights using the main terminal; a pier change is not a road transfer between airports. Ask staff about the correct route if your itinerary includes pre-clearance or baggage reclaim.

AUH ↔ Dubai: bus station is not DXB

Airport Express plus a separate onward connection

Airport Express runs between AUH and Ibn Battuta Bus Station in Dubai, with ticket purchase at the airport Arrivals counter. Its published timetable includes overnight departures. For DXB or DWC, add the separate journey from the bus station, waiting, traffic, baggage and the next airline’s check-in deadline; this is not an airside airport transfer.

Accessibility

Arrange assistance for both flights

AUH recommends requesting wheelchair assistance through your airline at booking or at least 48 hours before the flight. Its transfer support can meet you at the aircraft. Specify both services, any mobility equipment and required help so the request describes the whole connection.

Families

A sensory space near D43

The family-services directory identifies a Sensory Space near Gate D43 for travellers who need a calmer environment. It also lists nursing/changing rooms and complimentary strollers. Confirm the nearest route with staff; a sensory space is not a hotel room or an unsupervised child-care service.

01

Follow the right transfer route

AUH directs connecting passengers to follow purple Transfer signs, clear transfer security and check the flight screens. Its guide places the onward boarding-pass desk immediately after screening. Confirm through-checked baggage with your originating airline; reclaim requirements change the route.

02

Where to rest between flights

Compare AUHotel’s private room with a lounge visit. AUHotel offers 6-, 12- and 24-hour packages. A lounge relaxation area, shower or private room may carry separate conditions and charges; do not assume all are included in basic admission.

03

The booking mistake to avoid

Airport Express to Dubai ends at Ibn Battuta Bus Station, not Dubai International Airport. An AUH–DXB change still needs another transport leg plus arrival and departure procedures.
